Since it's been quite some time since I updated, I figured I would let you all know how things have been for me. Last night I started my internship at WHDH-TV (Channel 7, Boston's NBC affiliate) and despite being extremely nervous, things went very, very well. I'm interning in the sports department (and why the hell they decided to take me on, I have no idea) but I really like it. Most of my job will be logging the Sox/Pats/Celtics/Bruins games so that the producers can talk to me and figure out what to put on for highlights during the 11pm newscast. Because it's a non-union station, I got thrown right into the mix of it all. I worked from one of the producer's desks, and answered some questions for Joe Amorosino while he was writing his script. I'm so excited because everyone was so nice to me, and they don't treat me like the inferior intern that I am. And I actually feel like I'm contributing something. So basically I get to watch sports games and get credit for it - best job ever :) The big downside is that I'm there until about 11:30, which means I won't get home until around midnight, and I have an 8am class the next morning. I'm only there for Sundays during the day and Monday nights, but I'm hoping that once I get into a routine, it will get a little better. This of course is a complete lie, and I'll die around the mid-semester point. But it will be for a good reason.
As everyone else has been saying, band is awesome this year. I really like playing baritone so far, but the only thing I'm nervous about is missing rehearsal once a week. With everything else that's going on, it's just another thing to stress me out to be behind in band. But I'm trying to stay on top of things so hopefully it won't get too too bad. We'll see how it goes.
I started back at the chocolate store, and I'm happy to actually be making some money. The things that I love about working there are having all the regular customers again, and saying "welcome back" to me. It's so nice. And then there's the guy who works at the printing store who always tips his hat to me - so cute! I'm only working there twice a week, but on Mondays I'll be going right from work to WHDH so that'll be a long day.
Classes are going well too, they don't seem to be terribly difficult. Two are sports journalism classes and another is TV newsroom, so there's not too much outside work for those. And it's things that I absolutely love doing, despite how stressful they'll be.
It'll be a good semester. I'll be kicking myself later on, but if I start to have a breakdown, just remind me that these are all good things that will be absolutely beneficial to me in the future. :)
